Aubameyang reveals reason for absence as he thanks Arsenal for support

The Gunners captain has missed the club’s last two matches - both against Southampton - but is now returning home

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that a health issue for his mum has been the reason for his absence from the team.

The Arsenal captain has missed the club’s last two games – a 1-0 defeat at and a 3-1 Premier League win away to the same opponents – due to ongoing family reasons.

The Gabon international has now confirmed on social media the reason why he has not been involved and offered his thanks to his Arsenal team-mates and fans for their support.

What has Aubameyang said?

Aubameyang wrote on Twitter: “Hey guys, thank you so much for all the messages and calls over the last few days.

“My mother is going through some health issues and I had to be there for her. She’s already much better now and I will be back home tonight. I’m more than grateful to the doctors and nurses helping her get through this, and of course, thanks to my Arsenal fam for the love yesterday! I’m more determined than ever to keep our momentum going!

“Thank you all again – I really am beyond blessed to receive this level of support and love from all of you and I can’t wait to be back.”

When will Aubameyang be back in the Arsenal squad?

With Aubameyang confirming he will be back home on Wednesday, there is every chance that the forward will be available for selection for Saturday’s game against at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal’s next fixture after the visit of United is a trip to Molineux to take on on Tuesday, February 2.

What has been Aubameyang’s form this season?

The former attacker has endured an inconsistent campaign so far and has scored only five goals in the Premier League.

However, he scored twice in a 3-0 home victory over Newcastle in his last appearance and will be looking to continue that momentum when he returns to Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has confirmed he will return to Arsenal duty after being allowed time off for ‘personal family reasons’.

The Gabonese striker has now confirmed his absence was due to the health of his mother and has thanked the club and fans for the support he was given over the past week.

Aubameyang had missed both of Arsenal’s matches with Southampton this week, the FA Cup defeat on Saturday and last night’s league win.

In a statement released on Twitter, Aubameyang said:

“My mother is going through some health issues and I had to be there for her. She’s already much better now and I will be back home tonight.

“I’m more than grateful to the doctors and nurses helping her get through this and of course thanks to my Arsenal fam for the love yesterday.

“I’m more determined than ever to keep our momentum going. Thank you all again. I really am beyond blessed to receive this level of support and love from all of you and I can’t wait to be back.”

Speaking last night, Mikel Arteta had been uncertain when the striker would return.

“Auba is having a difficult time, we’re all behind him and this win is for him,” said Arteta of the 3-1 victory.

Several Arsenal teammates, including Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe, both sent Aubameyang messages on social media offering their support.

“I love how they support each other and how they just protect each other,” said Arteta.

It is understood that Arsenal will keep supporting Aubameyang and a decision has yet to be made whether he will return for Saturday’s Premier League visit of Manchester United.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been unavailable for Arsenal’s last few games due to personal reasons.

Mikel Arteta explained after Arsenal’s 3-1 win against Southampton that Aubameyang has been going through a difficult time in recent days.

“Auba is having a difficult time, we’re all behind him and this win is for him,” said Arteta, per the Mirror.

Alexandre Lacazette dedicated his goal against the Saints to the Gabonese striker, while other members of the squad wrote messages to him on social media.

Aubameyang has now spoken out about missing Arsenal’s past few games.

He has revealed in an emotional statement that his mother was not been well in recent times and he had to be by her side.

Fortunately, Aubameyang’s mother is recovering and he will be back in London on Wednesday evening.

He wrote: “Hey guys, Thank you so much for all the messages and calls over the last few days.

“My mother is going through some health issues and I had to be there for her. She’s already much better now and I will be back home tonight.

“I’m more than grateful to the doctors and nurses for helping her get through this.

“And of course, thanks to my Arsenal fam for the love yesterday! I’m more determined than ever to keep our momentum going!

“Thank you all again - I really am beyond blessed to receive this level of support and love from all of you and I can’t wait to be back.”

It’s a relief to hear that his mother is well and he will be back in action very soon.

Aubameyang will presumably be available for selection when Arsenal welcome Manchester United on Saturday evening.

He will be looking to pick up where he left off, having notched twice against Newcastle in his late outing.
