Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter-founded entertainment company Roc Nation is launching a new brand and multimedia platform.

Titled, EDITION by Modern Luxury, the new venture is being created in partnership with Modern Luxury Media and aims to “amplify and elevate voices that are shaping popular culture”.

Roc Nation’s expansion into the media follows the company’s recent VR move, having purchased an undisclosed number of SENSO tokens from $100m-backed Sensorium Corporation.

EDITION will launch across print, digital, social and “experiential activations” in winter, 2021.

According to a media release, “insider content and deeper audio and video storytelling” will be unlocked through hidden tokens embedded throughout the issues.

Isoul H. Harris has been appointed as Editor-In-Chief and he will work closely with Roc Nation EVP Strategy & Communications Jana Fleishman as well as the Modern Luxury team.

Harris is the former Editor-In-Chief of UPTOWN.

He has also produced digital lifestyle content and experiential programming for Morgan Stanley, Microsoft, and American Express Platinum.

United Rugby Championship partners with Roc Nation

The new United Rugby Championship (URC) competition has revealed that it is to engage in a strategic consulting partnership with Roc Nation, rap artist Jay Z’s American-based entertainment company.

It’s the latest in Roc Nations’ forays into the sport, following on from their increasing involvement in South African rugby union. Their new partnership with the URC – the latest iteration of the PRO14 that will include four South African sides – will see their influence on the branding of the sport increase.

Both parties say the new partnership ‘strives to provide a platform that embraces and celebrates difference, capturing the imagination of the next generation of rugby fans and talent.’

A statement says: “With both brands built on a strong notion of entertainment, the partnership has been designed to drive innovation, community and integrity, reaching new audiences via purpose-driven initiatives and creative activation.
